new house: kitchen

I am so excited about our new kitchen. We updated our kitchen 2.5 years ago. Major update- we knocked down a wall and opened it up to the living room. I love everything we did to it! So I knew in the new house I wanted it to be pretty similar.

Instead of doing another dark gray island, we're doing white. We'll still do a gold faucet and pot filler, but we'll do black matte knobs and pulls.

I love this look:

We actually toured this house and I absolutely fell in love with it. It was amazing. You can see more of it here.  I also would love to have our floors look like those!

I still haven't finalized the back splash. I'm thinking white subway tile in herringbone, but with white grout this time (we have dark gray now). I love the idea of a marble back splash, but Dave says no. I know some people are over all white kitchens and subway tile, but I've always loved it. My parents did the kitchen in our house in the early 90's and it was all white and had tile.

We'll keep our same bar stools from World Market. I had wanted to keep our pendants (love them!) but are looking for some other ones. I like these and these. The light in the kitchen above will be the light in our eat in kitchen space (here).

Looking at all these photos makes me so ready to see it finished!

Happy New Year!

New year, new you/new goals right? I have never been big into resolutions. I just can't keep them. I am who I am as much as I may want to change certain habits. So starting last year I just did goals. And I plan to do it again this year.

2017 Goals

-Walk more. I am not the most active person at all. So I'm not going to say work out 5 days a week or take up a random sport. I just need to get out and walk with the kids. I have my FitBit to keep me on track.

-Get organized. I started working on this last year and made great progress. I am going to keep going!

-Eat better, cook more. This is something else I've been working on and want to keep working on. When I have time to plan and shop, I really like to cook.

-Budget. When I was single and living on my own, I was great with my budget. Then I got married, we joined accounts and I didn't pay attention to all of our new/different bills. Now we have twins- two more people to budget for! So this year I am determined to take over our budget, understand it and get it under control. I'm going to use the website and app Good Budget if anyone is interested or has used it and has tips.

Now if I really wanted to push myself, these are all things I'd love to do in 2017: make my bed daily, take Poppy for reguarl hair cuts, work out 3 times a week, teach the twins more, clean the kitchen every night after dinner, put away all the toys during nap time, clean out every closet, purge my closet, go to the dentist every 6 months, stop impulse purchases in the Target $1 spot, drink less champagne, go to bed earlier, watch less TV, take all my piles of old clothes to consign instead of letting them grow, keep the twins room clean, do laundry regularly...the list could go on and on! But if I did ALL of that I would be super woman and wouldn't quite be ME, right?! That's what I'm telling myself.

twins: 18 months

The twins turned 18 months on December 30! They have so much personality and this age has been really fun.

Eloise has been protesting naps, still throwing food to Poppy and is very dramatic and full of personality. She loves her hair bows, Poppy and her daddy. Meanwhile James loves to sleep! We have to wake him in the morning sometimes and from naps. He loves to cuddle which is so sweet. He is definitely a mamas boy. James also loves Poppy, possibly more than Eloise. It's so cute.

Favorite toys: They love their slide! They pretty much love all the new toys they got for Christmas. Especially their cozy coupes for outside. Eloise loves her Fisher Price little people, push toy, baby dolls and James loves his broom, vacuum and tools. They both love the bounce house they got as well!

Food: Both are getting pickier about eating. They used to eat just about everything! But now, not so much. Uncrustables, turkey, chicken nuggets are always favorites, along with cheese, yogurt, apple sauce, fruit or toast. We went through a phase where they only wanted cereal bars for breakfast, but now they're moving on. They love pancakes or cinnamon chip bread (from Great Harvest- it's a great!) or fruit and yogurt. James doesn't like mac n cheese (which makes me really wonder how he is my child) but Eloise loves it! Just like me.

One goal for myself is to take them to My Gym/Little Gym, story time at the library or toddler time at the trampoline park by myself. I can take them plenty of places alone, but have been scared to take them somewhere where they will be running around free with just me supervising. I'm so nervous I'll lose one or one will have a fit. I'm determined to do it soon!

I guess what I want to remember about this age is how cute and sweet they are. And so innocent. But I will also remember how feisty they can be, the pointless temper tantrums, the crying over nothing... so ready for them to understand a little bit better. But on the other hand I'm amazed by how much they know! They can listen and follow basic instructions, they know what we're saying. So much to look forward to this year with them!
