great buys

I have recently found some great items that were all under $100! I just had to share them with y'all too!

vegan leather jacket. $78
This item has been on my wish list! I bought one last year and returned it, I've regretted it ever since. I love this one I found at Nordstrom.

pj shorts. $38
I know it is winter and time for cozy pajamas, but sometimes I get hot! Or would rather wear a sweatshirt or a blanket than sweatpants. So I found these cuties at Anthropolgie. I wore them while getting ready for the wedding this past weekend and I know I'll wear them lots.  I like that they're cute, but totally appropriate to wear in front of any family company you may have in town for the holidays.

topshop dress. $80
Our Nordstrom just got a Topshop department! I got this dress to wear for the bridesmaids brunch, but I also plan to wear it for Christmas get togethers! I like that I can dress it up or down.

anthropologie dress. $88
I am in love with this dress!!! It is soo soft and comfy. I wore it with boots, but think I could also do heels/wedges or flats. And it was just $88- which I think is a great price for a versatile dress. I like to do a dollar amount per use for things, and I know this one will be so worth it. Example, it cost $100 and you wear it just 4 times it is $25 per wear....

happy thanksgiving!

I hope that everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends!

I am making Salted Caramel-Chocolate Pecan Pies today for my first Thanksgiving meal.  I don't think my pie will look like the cover of Southern Living, but I hope it tastes as good!

After we eat with my family, we head to have dinner with Dave's family at my sister & brother-in-law's house.  So thankful I get to spend time with both families!

Have a wonderful day y'all!

weekend review

I had such an amazing weekend!

Friday night we had a nice dinner with my dad. Went to bed early to prepare for my trunk show on Saturday. Saturday was awesome! My friend Allison hosted a trunk show for me at her house. It was so fun. Lots of people stopped by and got some great jewelry and clothes for themselves and gifts.

It went so well in fact that I sold out of most of the pieces I had prepared for my photo shoot! So after the trunk show I had to rush and buy more beads. Saturday night friends came over and helped me bead some necklaces. Made for a very late night and early Sunday morning to get it all done!

Sunday was the incredible photo shoot. It was more than I imagined and I can't wait to do it again! After a few early morning hours of beading, I popped over to Blo to get my hair done! I didn't plan to be in many photos- just a few. But I'm so bad at doing my own hair.  When I got there, there had been a scheduling issue so I had to wait awhile. But they comped my blo out! Which I thought was so nice and great customer service. I was able to sit and relax with a glass of champs before the big day.  And I loved the people there and the way my hair looked when I left!

The photo shoot lasted a few hours and probably could have gone longer if we'd had more light. I can't wait to share all of the photos.  The day included lots of champagne, lip stick, great shoes and jewelry! I'm so thankful to my sister and my friends aka my models, photographer and assistant stylist. :)

Here is a sneak peek of the holiday photo:

Can't wait to share more!

friday five: november 15

Happy Friday y'all!! Hope everyone had a great week- I sure did. It flew by and was super busy.

one. Next Tuesday Dave and I will celebrate are second anniversary! Last year we went to NY for the weekend. This year we will be celebrating my bestie getting married!! Instead of getting gifts for each other or doing anything elaborate, we are treating ourselves to a new blanket. We love this blanket from Restoration Hardware (we have one), but it is pricey. So this will be our anniversary treat! I'm also going to get our shams monogrammed.

two. I finally picked up my orders from the Belk Charity Sale! There was a 2 hour wait last Saturday and Sunday. People were going crazy! I'm super happy I did it though. I got new Hue jeggings in gray which I love. I also ventured out of my comfort zone and got black wax coated pants by Paige.  I think these are them.  The sale made it worth it to get them. I was also able to get my favorite foundation!

three. Trunk Shows! Tis the season for lots of shopping and gift giving! I had a trunk show last night and got to meet a lot of new people and book some new shows. My holiday calendar is getting full and I love it. I love helping people pick out just the right gift for someone (or themselves)! Let me know if you want to host a trunk show with Poppy Style and/or La Senorita Jolie and/or Rodan + Fields! :)
(yes I realize that is a lot...)

four. We didn't really decorate much for Halloween/fall, so I am ready to decorate for Christmas! Normally I wait until after Thanksgiving, but this year I think I might start this weekend. Send any great decorating ideas my way!

five. I am in love with this new hairspray. I like big hair and this works great to hold a "tease." I don't use it as an "allover" hold hairspray. Just when I am teasing it. It works great! Its the little things that can make my day...
Have a great weekend!

target favorites

I am loving all that Target has to offer right now! Sometimes their clothes are hit or miss for me, right now it is a hit!

I've been living in this tunic- so much I bought it in another color. It is a great length to wear with leggings or skinny jeans and boots. I went up a size to make it a little looser on me. I have been surprised with how many compliments I've gotten on it!

I am loving everything they have out for the holidays! Makes me want to decorate right now.

For entertaining:

Acrylic Flutes for holiday champagne toasts

High Ball Glasses- Perfect for a holiday cocktail

You can never have too many trays in my opinion!

For the living room:

A snuggly throw

This pillow would be super cute on the couch:

Would love to have a pair of these:

And just because....

I got this white jewelry box the other day and plan to use it in my office!

Have you found any good things at Target recently??

buffalo chicken chili

I have to admit, I get the Weight Watchers magazine. (free gift!) This recipe was in it and my husband was actually the one that picked it out! I didn't think I would like it, but I did. I made a few changes and we plan to try it again soon.

Ingredients:
  • 1 pound ground, boneless, skinless chicken breast (I used regular chicken, just cut up small, next time we'll try ground or shredded chicken)
  • 2 tsp Canola Oil
  • 1 large Onion, chopped
  • 1 cup Carrots, chopped (about 3 medium)
  • 1 cup Celery, chopped (about 3 stalks)
  • 1- 15 oz can Fire Roasted Diced Tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup Franks Red Hot Original Red Pepper Sauce (more or less to taste, I did 1/3 and let Dave add more after)
  • 1 cup Fat Free, Reduced Sodium Chicken Broth (I accidentally used 6oz more than needed, so it was fairly soupy)
  • Salt and Black Pepper to taste
  • Reduced Fat Crumbled Gorgonzola (optional)
  • Light Sour Cream

1) Cook the chicken in the oil.
2) Add onion, carrots and celery-- let them soften up.
3) Add diced tomatoes, red pepper sauce and chicken brother. Stir and cover. Let simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
4) Serve topped with Gorgonzola and Sour Cream! I also served it with some rice to make it a bit more filling....and maybe not so WW friendly, whoops!

I've seen lots of similar recipes, some call for beans or more seasonings. I think anything would work!

{I'm working on finding a picture now to share!}

friday five: november 8

Joining up with the other girls today for Five on Friday!

one. Belk Charity Sale! If you live in the South then you know that Belk is one of our big department stores. The one in Charlotte is awesome! Tomorrow morning you can get 20% off brands that are almost always excluded from sales. We're talking brand new Sevens, Citizen, Miss Me, Theory, Lilly, etc. Oh and did I mention make up? I went ahead and put in my all of my preorders this week to beat the rush tomorrow. I'll share my purchases next week, but let me tell you they are awesome!

two. Poppy Style now carries monogrammed items! Check out our new gift section here! We'll be adding to it daily. Jewelry is coming up too! I had to get it all up and ready in time for the holidays. These are perfect gifts! And you can let me know if you have any special requests and I'll see if I have it!

three. This past weekend my oldest and dearest friend got engaged!! I am absolutely thrilled for her and her fiance. They are perfect for each other! I currently have 3 close friends engaged, one to be married in just two weeks!

four. I think I fell in love with my sweet hubby even more this week than I thought possible. His constant support for what I am doing is so wonderful.  It isn't easy going from two steady incomes to one steady income and one sporadic income.  But I'm following my dream and he is helping and supporting me.

five. Speaking of support, my in laws are awesome. My MIL & FIL came last Friday and stayed the night.  Debbie spent Friday afternoon helping organizing completely my office. Saturday Richard helped Dave work on a project in our kitchen area.  I am loving the way my office is coming together! And not just that- but tomorrow my sweet SIL, Danielle and Debbie will be working a Poppy Style booth for me in Clemmons! I am blessed to have them.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

currently loving

Here are few of my current favorite things...

How awesome is this jewelry box? I think it will come home with me later today. But I may not even use it for jewelry. I could definitely use it in my office for storage.

This is my newest necklace and I am in love! It is perfect for wearing daily and layering with larger necklace.

And the best part? It is just $30! Email madeline(@)shoppoppystyle(dot)com to order!

Camo is everywhere this fall and I think this hoodie is perfection.  I love to throw this on with jeans or leggings. I even wore it hiking!

Use code LSJ-MWH at checkout!

I love Chanel make up products. It is a splurge, but they feel great and last awhile.  This is my new favorite lipstick! I love the color "Saga"- not too bright, not too pale.  Goes on super soft and hydrating!

I'm loving this Rodan + Fields Macro Exfoliator. It is awesome! My skin feels SO soft after using it. It is so easy to use. I think this is a must have beauty product.

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

friday five: november 1

Happy Friday y'all! I can't believe I've missed the past two five on friday link ups! But I am back for it today!

one. This is my first weekend at home since September! I am so excited to take advantage of it. My in laws are coming to town for the night and tomorrow they'll help us with some house projects.

two. Tomorrow we have an engagement party for some very dear friends! I can't wait to celebrate with them! I ordered this dress for the occasion and it doesn't arrive until tomorrow so I am hoping it fits and looks good. I'm still not sure what shoes to wear with it.

three. We are going to re-do/update/change/etc the home office.  It was Dave's office, then we made some changes to make it work for me. But it is still not really the best working area for what I do.  So we plan to take some pieces of furniture out and put them in the guest bedroom.  Then on one wall we are going to have a pegboard where I can store/hang all of my jewelry inventory.  It will be a little like the one below, but much bigger.

Ideally I'd love to make my desk look like this:

I also love this desk and rug:

four.  I'm going to have lots of new jewelry pieces for sale soon- all handmade! I'm working on necklaces and can't wait to share them. Be sure to follow along on Facebook or Instagram to see sneak peaks.

five.  I got this top a few weeks ago and had to go back to get it in another color. I love it!! Super comfortable. However, the solid colors fit different from the stripes. (at least on me) I have a large in the stripes, but the large in the solid was tighter in the arms.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
